This work group aims to help teachers improve the chances of pupils experiencing a smooth transition in their maths learning between primary and secondary school. The Work Group will address key issues by looking at specific pedagogical themes and collaboratively developing models of continuity of approach that support pupils through the transition phase.

These free twilights are an opportunity to network with other teachers across the city, develop your understanding of the principles of mastery and create shared year group specific planning.
The twilights are aimed at all primary teachers from across the city.
Each session will be dedicated to developing an understanding of the teaching for mastery approach through creating medium term plans for mathematical concepts. During the sessions, you will have the chance to discuss the images, representations, questions and task design for individual lessons to ensure there is a coherent journey through and across the planning.

We are delighted to confirm that we will be holding a Primary Maths Hub Conference at The Marriott Hotel on Friday, 29th September 2017 (09.30 – 15:30).
Our keynote speaker for this conference is Ben Sparks (mathematician, musician and speaker). Ben’s keynote will explore the emotional impact of doing maths, and how dynamic geometry can tap into this.
Ben works part-time with the Further Maths Support Programme, based at the University of Bath, as a speaker, tutor and co-ordinator. He also spends time working as a maths enrichment speaker, including the Maths Inspiration project run by Rob Eastaway.
After a short presentation on the work of the Solent Maths Hub and our keynote speaker, there will then be the opportunity to take part in a serious of workshops, including:
SEND Maths in mainstream – Emma Patman, Assistant Director, NCETM
Mastery in Action – Sarah Anderson, Mastery Specialist teacher at Swaythling Primary School
Magical Maths – Ben Sparks
An agenda, with more detailed information, will be issued nearer the date.
Please note the cost of attending this conference is £30.00 per head (to cover venue and catering costs).
